13th, 2009 - The University of the Thai Chamber
of Commerce (UTCC), the Thai Chamber of Commerce
and Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) jointly
embark on a strategic action plan in order to enhance
trade and investment and to improve the exchange
of knowledge and best practices between LAC-SEA
countries.
The SEA-LAC Trade Center (UTCC) is in the final
stages of launching a new academic research center
to promote trade and investment between Latin
America and the Caribbean and Southeast Asia based
in Bangkok, the IDB will assist UTCC with the
implementation of cross-regional knowledge exchange
and databases. The IDB will also support the strengthening
of LAC-SEA trade relations by promoting networking
and communications related to UTCC.
On July 13th, 2009, the SEA-LAC Trade Center
launched the Inauguration Ceremony at the University
of the Thai Chamber of Commerce. Dr. Surin Pissuwan
was honorable keynote speaker in the topic of
“The future of ASEAN and Latin America in
the new world order.” Ambassadors of Latin
American countries in Thailand, and representatives
from ASEAN Foundation and Thai Chamber of Commerce
were honorable discussants in the topic of “What
should we do for SEA-LAC trade and investment
under the current global crisis?”
