11th , 2010 - The SEA-LAC Trade Center in
collaboration with Embassy of Peru, Thailand and
Department of Trade Negotiation, Ministry of Commerce
and Office of Thailand Trade Representative, conducted
a seminar on “Business Opportunities: Peru-Thailand
FTA” at the University of the Thai Chamber
of Commerce, Bangkok.
H.E. Carlos M. Velasco, Ambassador of Peru, Thailand
gave a presentation in the topic of “Business
Opportunities with Peru”, Ms. Sununtha
Kungwankulkij, Executive Director of Bureau of
America and Pacific Affair, Department of Trade
Negotiation (MOC) presented in a topic of
“Trade Agreement and Economic Partnership between
Thailand and Peru”, Khun Korrakod Padungjit,
Board of the Federation of Thai Industries and
Khun Tanes Chalermvongsavej, Export Area Manager
of Siam Cement Group shared their insightful experience
in doing business with Peru.
The seminar was joined by 50 business executives, government officials, and media, such as Department of Export Promotion (MOC), Department of America and Pacific Affairs (MOFA), Office of Small and Medium Enterprise Promotion, L.V. Technology Company, European Foods Company, Ocean Glass Company, and among others.
The seminar provided a venue for participants from different sectors to share ideas of trade and investment opportunities in Peru, regarding Thailand-Peru Free Trade Agreement. Also, H.E. Carlos M. Velasco recommended to Thai businesspeople to invest in Peru in several sectors. He believes Thai business has strong potential in hospitality business in Peru. Khun Sununtha Kungwankulkij, shared information of taking benefit of Free Trade Agreement between Thailand and Peru. Export Opportunities for Thailand are: passenger cars, pick-up truck, washing machine, refrigerator, heater, air-condition, rubber- tyres for motorcycles, plastic, iron products, Sport equipment, and rice. Khun Korrakod Padungjit and Khun Tanes Chalermvongsavej shared their experience in doing business with Peru. They recommended Thai businesspeople who are interested in investing in Peru and other countries in Latin America should have basic knowledge of Latin American culture and Spanish language. It will help business to become successful in Latin America.
