Topic :

Conflict, cooperation and the common good

Abstract :

The lecture will look at ways of resolving conflicts and determining coordinated policies to solve major problems. It will compare arrangements that attempt to do what is right with those that involve negotiated bargains. Examples that show the difficulty of achieving either form of agreement are policies to limit climate change and and resolution of territorial claims. What exactly are the difficulties, and what can be done to solve them?
